1. Trent University

Ranking at the top spot for offering generous grants and multiple scholarships for international students is Trent University. With campuses in Peterborough and Durham Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, this university offers its students one huge means to meet their ends.

Here are the scholarships in Canada for international students that have the most significant amount of financial assistance:

  • Trent International Global Citizen Scholarships and Awards

International students who have exhibited great leadership, community service, academic excellence, and some need for financial assistance are eligible for this scholarship and awards upon their admission.

The amount covers some of the students’ tuition fees and other ancillary fees including housing expenses. The amount could range from 2,000 CAD to 27,000 CAD per school year.

  • Trent International Program Tuition Levy Scholarship

International students showing financial need with high academic grades, community commitment, and leadership are eligible for this scholarship. The amount of 27,000 CAD per school year could be used to cover tuition and ancillary fees but not housing expenses.

  • Trent-United World Colleges (UWC) Scholarships

International students entering Trent University from UWC college are eligible for this scholarship. Students should exhibit financial need, excellent academics, and community service. The amount would be determined upon assessment of the student’s financial need and could be up to 27,000 CAD per school year to cover tuition and ancillary fees without the housing expenses.

  • Justin Chiu International Scholarships

Established by one of Trent university’s alumni, Justin Chiu, Asian international students with high academic achievement, leadership, community service, and financial need are eligible for this scholarship. The successful candidate could receive from 3,000 CAD to 15,000 CAD per year to support his/her education expenses.

  • Maple Leaf Leadership Award

Students coming from a Maple Leaf Education System school with leadership potential, high academic grades, community service, and financial need will be eligible to apply for 2,000 CAD yearly given to a maximum of five students annually.

 

2. University Canada West (UCW) 

Right at the heart of Vancouver, UCW focuses its undergraduate and graduate academic offerings in Business and Commerce.

Here are some of the university’s awards and scholarships applicable for Filipino and Vietnamese international students. These are automatically awarded to the students once admitted to the program:

  • Southeast Asia (SEA) Regional Grant

All international students from the following countries are eligible:

Philippines Myanmar Cambodia Malaysia Vietnam Indonesia Laos Timor Leste Brunei Singapore Thailand   

 The grants to be awarded vary on the degree/program to be taken:

Associate of Arts (AA) BCom and BA MBA 6804 CAD 13,608 CAD 7000 CAD  

  • Special Targeted Regional Award Program

Students coming from the following countries are eligible for limited slots of entrance awards amounting to up to 5,000 CAD:

Mauritius, Mongolia, Turkey, Morocco, South Korea

  • University Canada West Founder’s Scholarship (for Undergraduates)

Open for students admitted in the programs BCom, BA in Business Communication, and AA – the university allocates 20 scholarships for full-time undergraduate students. Students may undergo an interview, and once selected, are required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.2 to keep the scholarship.

  • MBA Foundation Study Grant

Students who exhibited good leadership may be eligible for this scholarship of up to 5,000 CAD. The students are still subject to full payment of the MBA program and the scholarship will be granted at the last course credits of the program.

  • Academic Excellence Scholarship

International students who have excellent performance in their academics will be granted 4,000 CAD up to 12,000 CAD depending on the CGPA of the student. It is important to note that these amounts are not a one-time release but are rather spread out throughout the program.

Students eligible for this scholarship are those from the programs of MBA, BCom, AA, and BA in Business Communication

  • Second Language Excellence Scholarship

For students who have braved and aced their Academic IELTS and garnered an overall score of 7 with 6.5 as minimum score across all bands, the university grants them 2,000 CAD which is automatically applied to their accounts upon admission

3. Thompson Rivers University (TRU)

Located in Kamloops, British Columbia, TRU offers its students – both domestic and international – a wide array of scholarships. From academic excellence to athletic scholarship, TRU sure shows its support to its students’ diverse interests and strengths.

Here are some of TRU’s scholarships for international students:

  • International Athletic Scholarship

TRU is constantly in search of excellent athletes amongst its students. Full-time, non-ESL students who have exemplary skills in basketball, soccer, volleyball, or swimming need to qualify to one of the university’s varsity teams to be eligible for the athletic scholarship.

  • International Social Media Ambassador Awards

This scholarship is for enthusiastic students who are excellent communicators and enjoy being immersed in student-related events. The main role of the Social Media Ambassador is to promote TRU as an awesome school to study in Canada through different social media platforms. Social Media Ambassadors will be tasked to write blogs and other digital content.

  • Diversity Scholarships

Academically excellent students belonging to the underrepresented countries are eligible for this scholarship. Minimum requirements are as follows: 

- GPA: 3.0

- IELTS: 6.5; or TOEFL iBT: 88

  • Academic Excellence

Incoming students will need to have a minimum required GPA of 86% for their last year of attending high school/post-secondary school.

  • Exceptional Student Award

There are two main requirements for this scholarship:

- minimum GPA of 80% from the last year attended

- IELTS: 6.5 or above

 

4. Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU)

Undergraduate Scholarships

FDU offers scholarships in Canada for international students with up to 24,000 CAD annually to cover their education costs and living expenses. This is based on academic merit and is renewable for up to four years.

Other grants provided by the university are:

  • Global Housing grant (3,000 CAD)
  • FDU Family (1,500 CAD)
  • Children of Alumni Grant (1,500 CAD)

5. The Erindale Academy (TEA)

6. University of Fraser Valley (UFV) - Undergraduate

  • International Excellence Entrance Scholarship (Renewable)

  • Minimum CGPA of 3 for years in UFV to maintain eligibility

7.  Cape Breton University (CBU)

CBU is a reputable university in Nova Scotia. Although the winters are colder compared to other parts of Canada, the university has a wide array of scholarships that students could qualify for.

  • Major Entrance Scholarships

CBU offers its entrance scholarships and awards for all domestic and international students as long as they qualify with the following requirements:

  • Currently enrolled
  • Minimum of 80% average with no failed grade
  • English as Second Language (ESL) students with conditional offers must attend a partner language school
  • The scholarship amount ranges from 2,500 CAD to 7,500 CAD released yearly to the student
  • Other Entrance Scholarships

Aside from the major entrance scholarships, some other grants and awards are offered to CBU students upon their admission to their programs. The amounts range from 500 CAD to 5,000 CAD annually upon assessment of the applicants.

8. Douglas College  

With almost 100,000 CAD in total offerings for scholarships to international students yearly, Douglas College ensures to support most of its students.

These are the two entrance scholarships international students can apply for:

  • Douglas International Education Regional Entrance Award

Southeast Asian and South Asian international students and other students from other regions (click here) are awarded from 1,000 CAD to 2,000 CAD after the assessment of their academic and language scores upon admission.

  • Dr. Guangwei Ouyang International Education Entrance Scholarship

International students will be assessed based on their academics, school involvement, and community engagement. This is a good option for students looking for scholarships in Canada for international students since this is open for all countries. The amount of this scholarship is 2,500 CAD.
