Your Education and Career Will Take Off – Confederation College Aviation

A renonwed and one-of-a-kind learning opportunity in Canada.

Confederation College teaches a variety of programs including Computer Programming, Business, and Engineering – but a notable and outstanding offering is its four Aviation and Aerospace-related programs. These programs are taught exclusively at Confederation College’s Thunder Bay campus, with some dually or solely utilizing the Aviation Centre of Excellence (ACE) at Thunder Bay International Airport. Have you ever wanted to see what you work on flying above you, carrying people and goods around the world? If yes, then these program offerings are definitely for you.

Aviation – Flight Management

The two-and-a-half-year advanced diploma program trains you to become a commercial pilot by using both advanced simulators and a collection of planes from the ACE. The program has been offered since 1973 and is held in high regard across Canada. By the end of the program, you will have not only your diploma but also your Commercial Pilot License and Single Engine IFR certification. You can expect to pay in excess of CAD $18,000 regardless of if you are a domestic or international student.

Aviation Technician – Aircraft Maintenance

The two-year diploma program, accredited by Transport Canada, teaches you everything you need to prepare for the Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license test post-graduation. You will get hands-on experience in maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting numerous aircraft systems. The program also has a guaranteed co-operative education component, and you will receive additional certifications (WHMIS, Human Factors certificate, Aeronautical Restricted Radio Operator License) upon graduation. You can expect to pay CAD $15,000 - $45,000 for the entire program depending on your status as a domestic or international student.

Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering Technician (AMETechnic)

The two-year diploma program is the only of its kind in Canada and starts in the fall or winter semester. Over the two-years, you will learn how to effectively and meaningfully work in Canada’s aerospace industry. This is done through learning how to navigate advanced design and building programs, evaluate and test construction materials, and getting hands-on machining and CNC experience. Depending on your status as a domestic or international student, and without factoring in living expenses, you can expect to pay CAD $12,000 - $38,000 for the two-year AMETechnic program.

Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering Technology (AMETechno)

The three-year advanced diploma program is similar in structure to the two-year aerospace AMETechnic program, but is more concentrated and offers fewer electives and optional courses. However, because of the additional one-year and the curriculum with more mandatory courses, students develop a deeper understanding of aerospace engineering and the necessary technical skills in the field.

All of these programs have various requirements, with some preferences given towards certain mathematics courses (particularly at the grade 12 level), and international students must have an Academic IELTS score of at least 6.0. Completing this program sees you qualify for jobs not just in the aerospace industry, but manufacturing jobs across countless sectors. Some potential Canadian aerospace employers include Bombardier Aerospace, Boeing Canada, and IMP Aerospace. These programs were coincidentally designed with consultation from these companies.

The sky is not the limit for your education, especially if you are interested in aerospace and aviation. Register your free Global Study Guide account today to learn more about these and other programs offered by Confederation College.
