Take to the Sky with MNSU Aviation Bachelor of Science

MNSU's Aviation programs offer sky-high value.

Minnesota State University, Mankato’s (MNSU’s) Aviation program is the only four-year accredited program of its kind in the state of Minnesota. The program is a definitive leader in industry-standard lessons and curriculum that teach all manner of aviation management and administration, aeronautics, and flight. Ready for your education and career to take off? If yes, then these are your options for MNSU’s remarkable Aviation Bachelor of Science (BS) program.

The program teaches both theory and technical knowledge for graduates to become professionals who oversee the safe and efficient design, management, and operation of aviation systems. The curriculum focuses on airmanship knowledge, skills, and the ability to continually develop professionally and technically. There are three distinct concentrations within the program:

  • Aviation BS Aeronautics

Aviation, flight, and management components are taught along with other required university courses.

  • Aviation BS Aviation Management

Aviation and management components are taught along with other required university courses.

  • Aviation BS Professional Flight

Aviation and flight operations are taught along with other required university courses.

All Aviation courses are solely taught at MNSU’s Mankato campus – as opposed to satellite campuses in St. Paul or Minneapolis. Regardless of your chosen concentration, all programs require a cumulative 120 credits for graduation along with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, a minimum grade of C+ in certain core courses, and a minimum of 32 earned semester credit hours. For English requirements for international students, MNSU recognizes TOEFL iBT and IELTS scores with varying combinations of acceptable grades. All teaching staff are experienced and highly credentialed aviation professionals, and facilities include state-of-the-art equipment for simulations and technical instruction. All concentrations differ in high-level courses taught, but each consistently incorporates physics, mathematics, and certain core Aviation courses.

Enrollment in this program promises encouraging job opportunities upon graduation. With industry-renowned and considerate in-state partners such as Delta Airlines, SkyWest Airlines, and North Star Aviation, more than 90% of Aviation program graduates find employment following completion of their program - most with the aforementioned companies and other program partners companies. Many graduates find jobs within the state of Minnesota in commercial and passenger aviation businesses. MNSU reports that entry-level pilots for regional airlines can earn at least USD $63,000/year, with the average salary of commercial airline pilots reaching as high as USD $112,000/year.
