Communications, philosophy, political science, history, and psychology. All of these subjects are popular and noteworthy within Thompson Rivers University (TRU’s) Faculty of Arts. Are you unsure of which area to focus on in your studies? Then the Bachelor of Arts, General Program degree is for you. As you take your immersive and enjoyable arts courses with TRU, you can decide what you would like to specialize in upon your graduation.

  • With TRU’s online Open Learning system, you can complete your Bachelor of Arts, General Program with your choice of specialization in two-subjects. Notable programs you can finish your specialization in include:
  • English
  • Fine Arts
  • Geography
  • History
  • Psychology
  • Sociology

You can also finish with a combination of business administration, economics, or science. Some of these courses could be offered jointly with additional faculties.

You will have to collect 120 credits to complete your Bachelor of Arts, General Program. Within these 120 credits, 15 credits in upper-level courses need to be taken to recognize each of your two-chosen specializations. There are additional requirements for general lower and upper-level courses, but great flexibility exists for Bachelor of Arts, General Program students as 51 credits are allotted for elective courses – though availability may vary depending on your specializations.

Universities Canada states that 80% of top jobs require a university degree, and Statista Canada found in 2019 that university graduates had the lowest unemployment rate among other education levels. You will learn the themes of communication, critical thinking, collaboration, teamwork, and leadership no matter what you choose to focus your studies on in the Bachelor of Arts, General Program. These skills are highly transferrable to a variety of professions including project coordinators, writers, public relations, administration, and a variety of management roles. The courses you choose to specialize in can likewise see a variety of career possibilities and opportunities available to you.

Depending on your status as a Canadian or international student, and before factoring in living costs, you can expect to pay anywhere from CAD $750 – CAD $2,100 per semester.
