The University of Arizona (UofA) is a sought-after destination for international students. Each year, more than 4,000 students from a multitude of countries receive their education on this beautiful campus in the heart of scenic Tucson, Arizona.


Why choose the University of Arizona?

Choosing the right school for post-secondary education, particularly one that is very accommodating to international students, can be a hard decision. The UofA has an entire team of advisors dedicated to helping students from around the globe transition to academic life.

This team is on hand to assist applicants with important issues such as immigration requirements, orientation, and also provides resources regarding services and programs around campus.

Admissions Requirements

The admissions process for first-year international students is straightforward to understand. The following requirements are mandatory:

  • A 3.00 recalculated grade point average (GPA) (a "B" or better where "A"=4.00) from a secondary school.
  • Please note that GPA recalculation occurs during the admissions evaluation process and is based on grades from courses outlined in our competency requirements below.
  • Three years of high school work.
  • Students who are currently in high school are required to submit 9–11 grade work. Those who have completed high school must submit 10–12 grade work.
  • Have and present a completed high school diploma or certificate.


Other Competency Requirements

International students who completed high school outside the U.S. are required to meet the following competency requirements:

  • Math: four years (algebra I, geometry, algebra II, and one course requiring algebra II as a prerequisite).
  • Laboratory science: three years total (one year each from any of the following areas is accepted: biology, chemistry, earth science, integrated sciences, and physics).
  • Additional courses that are considered in the calculation of Grade GPA: Languages / Social Science / Fine Arts

Scholarships

The University of Arizona offers many coveted scholarships and student loans that are awarded each year to international students. These include:

  • Society of Women Engineers (For students in engineering programs)
  • Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship (Supports women from across the world interested in pursuing a career in Technology. Recipients each receive a $10,000 award and will be invited to attend the Annual Google Scholar’s Retreat in California.)
  • The Rowe Fund (This is an interest-free loan program that helps citizens from Latin America and Caribbean OAS Member States to finance their studies at accredited universities in the United States. Loans can be up to $15,000.)
