Founded in 1957 originally as State College for Alameda County, California State University East Bay moved to become one of the most diverse public institutions in the United States that offer high-quality bachelor's, post-graduate, and continuing education to its students. The university welcomes more than 14,000 students each intake, around 8% of which are international students taking bachelor's or graduate degree programs.
Cal State East Bay offers 49 bachelor’s degrees, 53 minors, 35 master’s degrees, 25 credentials and certificates, and 1 doctoral degree. This includes more than 40 high-quality continuing education degree and certificate programs geared to address the learning needs of working professionals, and are usually offered in the evening, on weekends, or online.

General Admission Checklist for International Students
- Copy of transcripts or academic records (an English translation of all documents is required if the original language of the document is not English)
- English Language exam results may not be required during application but are better if provided. Accepted exam results include TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System), PTE (Pearson Test of English), EIKEN Test in Practical English Proficiency, and ALI (American Language Institute).
- Test scores such as SAT, ACT, AP and/or IB, if applicable
When to Send Application
- Fall intake – international applications are accepted between 01 October to 15 December
- Spring – international applications are accepted between 01 August to 31 August
Note that not all campuses and/or programs accept applications each term. Be sure to check each individual program page for information.
Tuition Fees and other Expenses
- The following figures provide an estimate of tuition fee for one year of full-time study for international students:Undergraduate (based on 12 units) – $ 16,499
- Graduate (based on 9 units) – $ 15,557
- Graduate Business Professional Programs such as MBA or MSBA (based on 9 units) – $ 20,417
- MS Accountancy (17-mo program) – $ 18,120
- MS Accountancy (20-mo program) – $ 20,385
Students are expected to allocate $ 1,550 per year for health insurance, and around $ 18,000 per year for living expenses.
Scholarships available for International Students
Cal State East Bay offers merit-based scholarships for international students. Need-based scholarships are not available for international students. Students can check for available scholarships and grants at iefa.org or Fastweb.
