Saskatchewan Polytechnic University is a school with campuses in various cities in Saskatchewan, Canada -  including Regina, Moose Jaw, and Saskatoon. With a range of disciplines, the university is especially known for trades and vocational programs and has important connections with the industry.

Important Notes

  • Designated Learning Institution; graduates are eligible for PGWP
  • Two-thirds of Sask Polytech’s programs are work-integrated, meaning they offer work experience within the program.
  • 92% employment rate within six months to one year of graduation
  • Note that Saskatchewan has many different streams for Permanent Residency such as SINP and more for students.

Program Areas

Sask Polytech has a range of programs but is focused most on industries that provide job prospects for people wishing to live in the province. These include skilled trades through traditional schooling and/or apprenticeship, agriculture, construction management, and engineering. The school also has a variety of programs in health sciences and care, as well as business management.

Credentials include certificates and diplomas, and a Bachelor of Nursing.

Entry Requirements

  • Specific requirements vary per program
  • Students from countries where English is not the first language must prove English proficiency.
  • Some programs, mostly those in healthcare, do not honor the exempt countries (those with English-speaking programs). This means that students must still prove proficiency.
  • Applicants can prove proficiency by attending a Canadian high school, post-secondary institution, or taking an ELP test. Sask Polytech accepts TOEFL, IELTS, CAEL, CANTest, and Duolingo, among others. See full details here.

Getting There

  • Application deadlines: Most programs are on a first-come-first-serve basis, so applying earlier is better. That being said, there are some competitive entry programs.
  • To guarantee your application to be reviewed, apply by May 1st for the following September intake.
  • Intakes: A majority of programs start only in the Fall (September), however, a select few programs start in January
  • Application fee: $150
  • Processing time: For most programs, it will take 15 days for applications with all required documents to be assessed.
  • Payment terms: Within 30 days of being accepted, students must pay a non-refundable deposit of $10,000 CAD to ensure their spot in the program.
  • Please note that only in the case a study permit is not granted, students may be eligible for a refund of the deposit.
  • In the first year of studies, students must pay the full year’s tuition before the program's start date. The rest of the tuition is due each semester.

Living There

Sask Polytech does not have residence, but they have housing registries to help students find accommodation. They also partner with Canada Homestay Network so international students can live with a Canadian family.

Tuition, Costs, and Financial Aid

Tuition and fees vary between the four campuses but are generally affordable. It also varies for the type of program and the students’ year level, usually amounting to around $20,000 CAD per year, including all fees but not cost of living. See here for a complete listing of tuition and fees per program.

International students are eligible for academic merit awards that do not include financial need as a requirement.
