Fleming College’s Haliburton School of Art and Design is a haven for makers and creative professionals. The school provides flexible programs taught by well-experienced instructors who are pillars of art, craft, design, media, and heritage studies in Canada. Whether you are a budding artist, or you already have a growing art portfolio, or maybe you are interested in managing cultural treasures and arts, Fleming College has something for you to push your craft to the next level and be the artist you want to be.

The majority of the Art and Design programs are hosted in Haliburton Campus in Haliburton, Ontario. The campus is next to a lake and surrounded by green spaces, ensuring that students can find inspiration to create and hone their craft inside and outside the classroom and studios. The campus is also home to the Sculpture Forest which features 20 installations by Canadian and International artists.

Fleming College takes pride in being one of Canada’s top colleges in terms of the variety of creative program offerings. From short-term Art Certificate and Graduate Certificate programs to more comprehensive Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs, Fleming College caters to all types of makers with varying experience and expertise.

  • Art Certificates are short-term programs, usually delivered in 1 semester (15 weeks), that focus on improving the foundations and skills of students in a specific art form. Graduates of the program can begin creating their masterpieces or join a studio to collaborate with fellow artists. Haliburton Campus offers the following Art Certificates:Artist Blacksmith

  • Drawing and Painting
  • Fibre Arts
  • Glassblowing
  • Jewellery Essentials
  • Moving Image Design
  • Photo Arts

For those who would like to attain a college diploma, and dive deeper into the foundation of arts coupled with experiential learning opportunities, Fleming College offers Diploma programs in Integrated Design (3 semesters) or Visual and Creative Arts (4 semesters). Completing the Integrated Design Diploma will provide students with both a diploma and certificate credential in their specialization (see list of Art Certificates above for the options).


Students who already attain a college or university degree can pursue a Graduate Certificate in Expressive Arts or Independent Studio Practice. Both Graduate Certificate can be completed in 1 semester. Expressive Arts are for those who are interested in using art as a therapy, and a way to open up communication between themselves and the people in their care through various art forms. Independent Studio Practice is for emerging artists who want to further develop their skills and network in the art scene.


Fleming College also offers a one-of-its-kind program in heritage and museum studies. The Peterborough Campus offers Graduate Certificates in Cultural Heritage Conservation Management, and in Museum Management and Curatorship. Lastly, Fleming’s Art and Design program line-up is completed by the Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design – Visual Communication which is also offered in Peterborough.
